Do Cayman Flag yachts need all chefs onboard to have Ships Cook Certificate?
Interesting question regarding Cayman Flag yachts and who needs a ships cook certificate answered today by Cayman Registry.
I have many chefs ask me if all chefs on a yacht need to hold the SCC or Recognition as Ships Cook Cert?
eg if a Cayman Flagged yacht has 2 or more chefs in galley do they all need a SCC?
Here is the answer: no. one needs to hold it and anyone handling food needs level 2 food hygiene. So basically as any crew member might go into crew fridges to take food all crew need level 2.
But would recommend all chefs have the SCC in case the chef who has it is off or sick etc.. In my view better to have it than not and I recommend all chefs on yachts have level 3 food hygiene as even if you are just cooking crew food you should understand all levels of food safety and best practice which level 3 gives. Level 3 is supervisor level.
