Does the SCC need to be renewed after 5 years like other certs?
In response to many chefs emailing me or calling me I emailed the MCA in the UK to ask them if the SCC (Ship’s Cook Certificate) expires or needs to be renewed.
The answer thankfully, is no..
Here is the email I received on 18th March 2020 from Cate Heil at MCA:
My Question: what happens to chefs who got a SCC back in 2015 and 5 years is now passed.. do they have to do updates? Renewals? Etc?
MCA Answer:
As this is an Maritime Labour Convention certificate/qualification the requirements under STCW to revalidated every 5 years do not apply. This may change in the future (if brought into MLC) but is not a current requirement.
