Which are the MCA approved Centres for doing the Assessment in Marine cookery?

Update as of 6 November 2020.

Email received from MCA below lists the MCA approved providers….

NOTE: This is the list of UK MCA approved centres. If you are wanting to do a UK MCA approved assessment in order to obtain the UK MCA Ships Cook Certificate then these are the centres they have approved. I will post an update on other flag state ships cook certificate info as and when I get them. Some flag states are already listed on this site and what their requirements are regarding ships cooks. Please refer to those pages.

    Hi Cate,
I just left you a voicemail, but i need to renew my ships certificates as i have been out of the industry for a few years.

Luckily i have a job offer, unluckily I’m having trouble finding somewhere to complete the certificate in marine cookery.

Any thoughts or ideas would be most appreciated.

Is there any Covid leeway, such as you must complete the course within a set time period of time???

    Regards,

    Simon.

NOTE: As at 29 March 2022 this list of MCA Approved centres is correct.
The MCA are hoping to visit new centres to audit them at some point but no date has been given for this yet.
So please refer to the list on this page for where to sit an approved MCA assessment in marine cookery for those wanting to apply to the MCA for a UK MCA issued Ships Cook Certificate
    thanks

    Hello!

I will be taking the STCW certification in November along with the ENG1 to break into yachting. I want to move forward and book myself at Leiths, however I understand that I need one month minimum ship experience before taking the ships cook assessment. Is this a hard rule or just a suggestion? Would love to knock out the assessment first if I could!

Hi Angela, you are right. If applying to MCA for one you need to prove 1 months sea service.
I guess if Leith’s will let you do the marine cookery assessment without the 1 mth sea record, then you get a job and get the 1 mths sea time and you can always delay sending off the docs with your ships cook application to the MCA..
Remember.. sitting the marine cookery assessment and passing it is not the actual ships cook cert itself. you need to fill and send all the docs on the form at https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/708167/MSF_4395_Ships_Cook_0518.pdf to the MCA and they will send you the actual ships cook certificate…
